Planned Giving

The Legacy of Choice Society was created to honor people like you who choose to include the Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation in their estate plans. Ordinary people making extraordinary contributions are key to the future of reproductive rights, health, and justice in North Carolina.

Legacy of Choice Society members enable Pro-Choice North Carolina to achieve long-term financial stability and sustainability by making gifts through a will, trust, or other life income plan. They help ensure that the fight to secure and sustain reproductive freedom can continue now and for generations to come.

Bequests

How Do You Make a Bequest?

A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. Simply include language in your will or trust specifying your gift to the Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation or Pro-Choice North Carolina as part of your estate plan.

While gifts left to the Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation are tax-deductible, bequests to Pro-Choice North Carolina are not. However, with proper estate planning, it may be possible to make a significant gift to support Pro-Choice North Carolina’s legislative work and avoid estate taxation. Please consult your tax advisor for assistance in establishing a legacy that will reflect your concern for North Carolinians’ reproductive rights.

Making a Bequest of Your Retirement Assets

A retirement asset, such as an IRA account, makes an excellent bequest. If the IRA were given to your family, much of the value might be lost through estate and income taxes. By designating the Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation as the beneficiary of all or part of your IRA (using a beneficiary designation form provided by your custodian), the full value of the gift is transferred tax-free at your death, and your estate receives an estate tax charitable deduction.

Make a Gift of Life Insurance

Did you know that you can give the Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation your life insurance policy today and receive a charitable income tax deduction? You can then make tax-deductible contributions to the Foundation each year, which we will use to pay the premiums. The Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation benefits from the proceeds of your policy.

Designate Us as Beneficiary of Your Policy

You can also designate the Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy. You will continue to own and can make use of the policy during your lifetime. The policy will be included in your taxable estate when you pass away, but your estate will benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction for the value of the gift to us.

IRA Rollover

If you are 70½ or older, you may also be interested in a way to lower the income and taxes from your IRA withdrawals. An IRA charitable rollover is a way you can help continue our work to protect choice and reproductive freedom in North Carolina.

Benefits of an IRA Charitable Rollover

  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000.
  • Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts.
  • Help further the work and mission of the Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation.

How an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift Works

  • Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to us.
  • Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to Pro-Choice North Carolina to help continue our critical work.
  • Please contact us if you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose.

Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.
