On the 45th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States of America, reproductive rights and justice advocates will join NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina for a "Rock for Roe” benefit show at The Mothlight. This year’s milestone anniversary comes after a year of renewed attacks on abortion access, emboldened by a White House administration that has vowed to turn back the clock on reproductive rights and health care.

"For many years, the fight to protect and expand access to legal and safe abortion has been in the states. In 2017, we were able to keep the NCGA from passing new restrictions in North Carolina, but we are also now facing numerous threats to abortion access at the federal level,” said Tara Romano, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina. "Safe and legal abortion access is already out of reach for far too many North Carolinians, and as advocates, we are preparing to resist further political attacks on reproductive health care in 2018. We are excited to partner with reproductive freedom advocates in Western North Carolina to build on the strong support that already exists here.”

NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation board director Monroe Gilmour of Black Mountain added, "The moral, political and legal question is this, 'Should the government or the pregnant person make this deeply personal decision?' For me, it has to be the pregnant person. We each have a responsibility to stand in active solidarity for the right of all people make their own reproductive decisions."

It will be more important than ever for North Carolina residents to bring their voices to their local, state and national representatives to preserve reproductive freedom for all, and – in addition to great live music – this event will include information about how, when and why to get involved.

Suggested donation of $10 at the door, and tickets for raffle prizes will also be available for purchase.
