Our Campus Leaders do incredible work throughout the academic year, and this blog post looks back at two events Victoria held in the fall.
Last fall, I hosted two small informational events about the emergency contraceptive Plan B to share quick facts, discuss primary birth control options, and hand out free Plan B to our student body here at Davidson College. The first event was hosted on October 23, and it was a public tabling event. I tabled along with the Planned Parenthood Generation Action club at our school and we were positioned at one of the main entrances of our college student union, so many people stopped by to learn and get some goodies—we not only had Plan B, but in the same "morning after” vein we also had donuts for everyone to take along with Plan B. Along with the donuts and Plan B, we made sure everyone had a Plan B FAQ/quick facts sheet to take home with them, which also included a $10 off coupon! It was surprising to me how little people knew about the effectiveness of Plan B and how it is supposed to be used. Way more people asked questions than I thought, and it felt super good to spread the word about how Plan B is to be used and emphasize that it is NOT a preventative measure and should be used only in emergencies.

Along with this tabling, later in the week I helped out a resident advisor with an event for their freshman hall. We called the event “Plan Boo” in light of the Halloween season! We gave out Halloween cookies, Plan B, condoms, lube, and dental dams, and I gave a brief presentation going over a crash course of contraceptive options, and then a more extensive conversation about Plan B and other emergency contraceptives. It was a good opportunity to share resources on campus as well as in the local area to first year students who are still getting used to the Davidson community and figuring things out. Lots of questions were asked, and two freshmen even inquired about ways to become more involved in reproductive justice as college students.
Overall these two events were super successful, and I am happy I was able to spread the word about Plan B and where to find it on campus, decrease stigmas and misconceptions around it, and educate my peers on sexual health related issues in areas where prior education may have been lacking. So much plan B was given out, so many treats were eaten, and so much information was learned!
