Serving on the Pro-Choice North Carolina Board has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional and personal life. It's given me the chance to work with passionate and strategic leaders who are unwavering in their commitment to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom across North Carolina.

My journey with Pro-Choice North Carolina began in the summer of 2022, when I served as a graduate intern, completing my practicum as part of my Master of Public Health program at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. That summer also marked the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Rather than experiencing that historic moment from the sidelines, I witnessed firsthand how an organization rooted in advocacy responded with urgency, compassion, and unwavering determination.

I watched our staff mobilize almost overnight—organizing rallies, educating communities, strengthening partnerships, engaging lawmakers, and rallying supporters to meet the moment. At one of the most consequential moments for reproductive rights in a generation, Pro-Choice North Carolina refused to back down. Instead, the organization strengthened its commitment to protecting and advancing the reproductive rights of all North Carolinians. Witnessing that level of leadership and dedication inspired me and affirmed that this was an organization I wanted to continue supporting long after my practicum ended.

Since joining the Board in 2023, I've had the privilege of helping shape the organization's future while growing as a leader myself. The experience has strengthened my confidence, challenged me to think more strategically, expanded my leadership and governance skills, and allowed me to contribute to a mission I care about deeply. I've helped guide important organizational decisions, collaborate with advocates from a wide range of professional backgrounds, and build lasting relationships with people united by a shared commitment to reproductive health, rights, and justice. Every meeting reinforces that meaningful change isn't driven by one person—it's built by people who bring diverse perspectives, ask thoughtful questions, and invest their time and talents in a common purpose.
