Leading up to International Women’s Day, we are reflecting on the persistent gender inequality, including the precarious state of abortion access, in the US in 2022. While other countries are expanding abortion access and improving gender equality, anti-abortion politicians here insist on moving us backwards.
The U.S. Supreme Court has done little to stop the decimation of abortion access in Texas for the past six months, and have signaled they are ready to further erode, if not outright overturn, the protections at the heart of Roe v Wade when they rule in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization later this spring. While this erosion of federal protections has been a serious blow to abortion access and reproductive rights, it’s not the end of the story. We can and will still fight and make gains for reproductive freedom at the state and local levels.
Join us for a panel hosted by the Women’s Commission of the Socialist Party USA on Tuesday, March 8th (International Women’s Day!), from 8pm-9:30pm EST to discuss where abortion access stands and what we can do in the states to ensure reproductive freedom for all. We’ll be joined by some of our state-based colleagues in Maryland and Washington to discuss efforts to hold the line, and even expand abortion access, in states across the US. And we will definitely be discussing ways YOU can be involved and steps you can take to ensure people can access safe abortion care, when they need it and in the communities where they live.
