BREAKING: Bills to Codify Roe Filed in the North Carolina Legislature!

Legislators in both the North Carolina House and Senate have just filed bills to codify the protections of Roe v Wade in our state! This is an incredible first step to ensuring all people in North Carolina will be able to get abortion care when they need it, no matter what happens when the U.S. Supreme Court releases its decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization in the next few weeks.

The Senate bill, Codify Roe and Casey Protections (SB 888), ensures the nearly 50-year legal precedent set in Roe that prohibits states from creating arbitrary restrictions or outright banning abortion will still be in place in North Carolina, even if Roe is overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Please join us in thanking the Senators who sponsored this bill.

Primary Sponsors of SB 888

Sen. Natasha Marcus (SD 41)

Sen. Jay Chaudhuri (SD 15)

Sen. Natalie Murdock (SD 20)

The House bill, the Reproductive Freedom Act (HB 1119) goes even further than codifying Roe. This bill will not just guarantee that people can legally access abortion in our state, but also remove many of the medically unnecessary and ideological barriers to care that have existed for far too long in our state, such as the unjust bans on insurance coverage of abortion and the ban on telemedicine for medication abortion. Please join us in thanking the Representatives who sponsored this bill.

Primary Sponsors of HB 1119

Rep. Marcia Morey (HD 30)

Rep. Carla Cunningham (HD 106)

Rep Julie von Haefen (HD 36)
