While we still don’t have a state budget here in North Carolina—it’s 363 days overdue, it’s been over 1,000 days since the NC General Assembly passed any budget, and we’re the only state in the country without a state budget—we can pretty much guarantee that once the North Carolina General Assembly drops a budget, it will include tens of millions of dollars of our public taxpayer money in it to fund anti-abortion centers (also known as “crisis pregnancy centers/CPCs”).

A quick refresher on what anti-abortion centers are and why they’re harmful: Anti-abortion centers exist solely to coerce and deceive people out of accessing abortion care, a normal and common part of reproductive health care for millions of people. They spread lies, do not provide medical care, perpetuate mis- and disinformation about abortion and about birth control and contraception, collect people’s personal information and data but are not beholden to healthcare privacy laws, delay people’s ability to access actual medical care, and they use our money to do all of this! Anti-abortion centers are an awful grift that’s gone on for way too long in North Carolina and across the U.S.

Even though we still don’t have a state budget, there are actions you can take TODAY against anti-abortion centers:
- Call and email your state representative and state senator and tell them “No money for anti-abortion centers/CPCs in the state budget!” You can find your NC House Representative and NC Senate Senator here (in the search bar, simply enter the physical address where you live):
- Write a Letter to the Editor of your local paper about how public dollars should not be funding anti-abortion centers and their deceptions.
At a time when North Carolinians are struggling with the high costs of groceries, gas, and housing, state legislators must be especially diligent about ensuring our public tax dollars go towards evidence-based programs and projects that support North Carolinians…not towards extremist anti-abortion ideological groups. Take action today and say, “No money to anti-abortion centers!”
