Holding the Line: What January Really Means for This Work
In January, many of us talk like the world just hit “refresh.” For us, it’s more like the time for a reality check. The attacks don’t pause, the lies don’t slow down, and the work doesn’t politely wait for us to catch our breath. We take a moment to reflect on what's working, what's not, and how to prepare for what's coming next. And then we get back to work.
2025 was a year when the opposition worked hard at keeping us feeling worn out and isolated. We held steady, but we couldn't have done it without your help. All year long, you stayed connected and invested in the work, even when it was inconvenient and messy.
Your support fuels the work every day and in every way. It keeps us nimble and ready to respond when people are searching for the truth—a truth that is getting harder and harder to find. It allows us to plan ahead and build the kind of long-term strategy that actually changes the terrain. It allows us to invest in an infrastructure that keeps this work steady and sustainable, so we’re not starting over every time the opposition tries to knock us off balance.
And it's not just financial support that keeps us going. Our strength comes from all the ways you show up—sharing our posts, forwarding emails, or correcting bad information in a group chat with friends—when it counts, and the way you keep showing up when it would be easier to disappear.
Together, we’re a network of bold advocates across this state, building power in our communities, backing each other up, and refusing to let lies and shame run the show. Pro-Choice North Carolina is not just a team of four staff members. It's people like you who show up every day and do the work. Thank you.
This is what it looks like to hold the line. We aren't just sharing information. We’re protecting North Carolinians from a coordinated effort to mislead us, frighten us, and keep us divided.
When you support Pro-Choice North Carolina, you’re backing a whole ecosystem of resistance and care and making sure North Carolinians aren’t left in the dark when what they need most is truth and clarity.
And you’re also helping us build what comes next.
This year, we’re doubling down on our efforts to strengthen people’s ability to recognize and push back against manipulation before it lands. Our misinformation work is about more than debunking whatever lie is currently trending. We're building a proactive strategy that makes mis- and disinformation less likely to stick, especially for young people struggling to navigate a digital world where the loudest (not the most accurate) content wins.
We’re creating a statewide network of community organizing hubs to hold this work down locally. We know what’s needed in Ahoskie is very different than the kind of work that needs to happen in Charlotte. What we're building is a network of durable, community-led power and the ability to respond quickly and appropriately when a new anti-abortion center pops up, a harmful narrative starts spreading, or a policy fight requires local pressure.
And we'll never stop our efforts to shape the next generation of reproductive rights champions. Not by hoping they magically appear when things get tough, but by intentionally investing in young leaders today, giving them real roles, and trusting them to shape the future of this movement tomorrow.
None of our plans are accidental; they're by design, and only possible because you and so many others have decided this work is worth resourcing, not just applauding.
So, thank you again.
Thank you for the gifts, and for the steady belief behind your support that says, "I’m not looking away. I’m not buying the spin. I’m not letting people in my state be lied to or shamed into silence."
For us, January is the time for a reality check. But it’s also a reminder that we’re not doing this work alone.
Because of you, we get to keep building. And that’s not just hopeful. That’s how we win.
